Peter and Paul both warned that the Word was being corrupted. In 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 Paul warns that as the serpant beguiled Eve, so our minds could be corrupted. He also warns that this new gospel is another Jesus, which includes another Spirit. In 2 Timothy 3:5 he says it is a form of godliness yet denying the power thereof. In verse 7 he implies that people studying these translations will be “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth”.

These are not simply mistakes made by man, for Paul says “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12
